![]() Our 34th season comes to an end. The Good Fellas have grabbed their 3rd championship. The Jelly Beans grabbed 2nd place. The Staley-Mitnick family did well (except for one team). The Brown clan continued their success (to a lesser degree), grabbing 3rd and 4th place and the Golden Helmet. I am leaning towards not having a party again this year (just call it commissioner paranoia). The costs above include a $20 party fee. If we do not do a party, adjust your totals appropriately (if you deduct $20 from what you owe, if you are getting money expect $20 more). Will debate the party in the next few weeks. The old web (http://swffl.50megs.com) has updated archives and historical records. I will also add some web-exclusive. Send any ideas to me and I will see what I can do. OK, this is the part where I look back at the draft analysis I do at the beginning of most years. This year it picked 1 of the 4 Money teams making 55 of 114 overall. 48% - almost the same a coin toss. Alternatively, the CBS Guru selected 3 of the 4 Money teams, which makes them 15 of 28 (54%) in the last 7 years. Apparently, the Guru's system is better than mine, which makes sense since CBS uses projections instead of last year’s numbers. It has also picked 8 money teams in the last 3 years where my old system has only picked 3. Both Spock and Norm both picked 3 of the 5 winners in week 18. Spock wins the annual competition getting 43 0f 80 or 54% correct. Norm (my estimates) was 28 of 80 or 35%. Usually when Spock wins this competition the Dream Team did not have a good year. Since we have some extra room in the last week, I will be doling out my season-ending awards for the year. The 2022 Fantasy MVP award goes to Travis Kelce, hate to go TE, but Kelce wont the TE crown by triple digits. The BILLS get 2022 Fantasy NFL Team of the Year award by grabbing a top 4 spot in 2 of the position rankings (QB and WR) despite only playing 16 games. Christian McCaffrey gets the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year after a bad injury (and did it through a team change). There were many candidates for 2022 Bust of the Year, (most because of injury Kupp and Taylor to a degree), but give it to Kyle Pitts (another TE selection), who was supposed to dethrone Kelce, but was far from living up to that promise when he too hit the IR. The 2022 Worst Fantasy NFL Team goes to the BRONCOS (who barely nipped out the COTLS and TEXANS). The 2022 SWFFL Rookie of the Year goes to Brian Robinson. He may not even be the best rookie RB (probably Walker) and there are some good arguments for the likes Olave, Watson and Wilson, but the dude got shot twice right before the season started and he deserves at least the SWFFL rookie of the year. The Roxborough Wranglers completed the season sweep of the Body Shop. The Wrangler were led by Jeudy as they finished the season at the .500 mark. The Shop was led by Allen in the loss (or should I say losses as Allen week 18 performance despite his great number – his 34 points managed to lose the last 2 games for the Shop). Losing by 1.6 points mean there was most likely some points on the bench that would have at least salvaged week 18 for the Shop. Olave over Copper would have done that. Last heard that Shop was distraught losing 2 games by less than 3 points (combined) in 1 day. Looking for a different Body Shop next year. The Dream Team avenged their early season loss to the Good Fellas largely on the efforts of Purdy and Chubb. The Fellas were led by the BILLS (who actually paid off in week 17 and 18). The Fellas not doubt cared little as they were too busy planning the parade for the championship they wrapped up a couple of weeks ago. |
The defending champion Black & Blue Attack completed the season sweep of the Money Takers. The Attack was led by Willson and Chase (week 18 makes for some strange lineup decisions). The Takers were led by Diggs as they had to settle for 3rd place. The Attack managed to sneak into the money too – more about that later. The Jelly Beans finished up a strong season by avenging their early season loss to the Black Assassins. They were the only team to break triple digits every week and wrapped up 2nd place although they failed filed a 20 point starter in week 18. The Assassin also failed to field a 20 point starter this week. A Geno and Ekeler start (I benched Keenan Allen for the same reason) over Lawrence and JuJu would have had the Assassins finishing at .500. The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the GFightin’ Irish and the Croatans. It resulted in the (as far as I can remember) use of the tiebreaker rule since we switched to using tenths of a point in our scoring. So Elliot's 26-point performance gave the Irish the win as the highest scoring starter. Of course, if DJ Chark does not catch that last non victory formation play, the tie-breaker thing does not even come into play. So, the last real play of the season (Chark catch) caused the Croatans to go into a tie-break which they lost and fell out of the money. That and the week 17 loss (which was not realized until week 18) by less than 5 points. I think the Croatans beat the Shop on the misery scale this week. I still get the season prize for that scale (though the Shop was a strong 2nd). CHATTERBOX:(Get Quotes in by Monday Night)
