![]() Week 6 finds the Commissioner’s office very sad and it has nothing to do with the EAGLES or the Dream Team. One of my best friends and an original Freddy Flintstone Football Leaguer (which is before my time), Danny (Bubba) Jones was diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cancer. Bubba was the Best Man at my wedding, and he was my roommate in my first apartment. He was also a partner in other fantasy leagues with me. Bubba is a very bright guy, (lost many a trivia game to him, and I consider that one of my strong areas). He is going for more testing and seeking second and third opinions. I will try to keep you all informed here and on the bulletin board. They are doing better and better with cancer, so I am hopeful that this may be just a little bump on a very long road with many miles left ahead for Bubba. For now, please keep Bubba in your prayers. They say “Hindsight is 20-20”, but I will be so glad when “2020 is hindsight”. The old web (http://swffl.50megs.com) has updated archives and historical records. I will also add some web-exclusive. Send any ideas to me and I will see what I can do. Key Matchups to watch this Week The Roxborough Wranglers and Croatans will meet in a battle to stay out of the basement. The Dream Team and the Body Shop will look to climb above the .500 mark, but only 1 team van do it this week. The Good Fellas want to keep that nice comfy spot above the Money Line at the expense of the Money Takers. In a matchup of Money Teams the first place Jelly beans will take on the defending champion Black Assassins. The Black & Blue Attack will try to get back in that top spot by beating the Fightin’ Irish. Norm (my estimates) was 4 of 5 last week making him 13 of 20 (65%) on the year. He gains top billing. Spock was 2 for 5 last week making him 9 of 20 (45%) on the year. His locks appear below: C -1 RW (269) JB -6 BA (278)DT -3 BS (251) BB -20 FI (274) MT -6 GF (262) There were 0 games final on Sunday (Monday night double-header). All the games had some Monday night madness (some more than others). The Jelly Beans, the Cheetah and a 34.8 pt. lead was too much for the Body Shop, Mahomes, Hardman and Greg the Leg on Monday night. The Beans were led by Matty Ice as they climbed to the top of the standings. The Shop was led by Mahomes and Brown in the loss. Zuerlein missed a 58 yd. FG that would have made this a very tough loss (0.2 pts). A Hurst and Higgins start would have halted the Beans climb to the top. The Dream Team, Gonzales and a 73.4 pt. lead were way too much for the Black & Blue Attack, Zeke and Nuk. The Dream team was led by Watson and Julio (nice to see him back in form) as they climbed to .500 and nabbed their first helmet. The Attack was led by Tucker in the loss that knocked them out of the top spot. The Attack certainly had some better options on their bench, but none that would have kept them in first place. |
The Good Fellas, Murray and a 3.9 pt. lead were not enough to hold off the Roxborough Wranglers, Allen, Cooper and the CARDINALS on Monday night. The Wranglers were led by Allen, Cooper and an unbelievable day by Henry as they put that first notch in that 2020 win column. The Fellas were led by Murray in the loss. Fortunately for them most of the top teams in the standings went down this week, so they hung on to their Money spot. Unfortunately for them an AJ Green start over Edelman would have had the Fellas in first place. The Takers and a whopping 106.2 pt. lead were way too much for the Fightin’ Irish, Edmonds, Diggs, Lamb and the CHIEFS. The Takers were led by Jefferson and Kittle in the win that pulled the Takers back to the .500 mark. The Irish failed to field a 20 point starter. The Irish had some bullet son the bench (like Lamar Jackson), but their best lineup would have come up short. The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Croatans and the defending champion Black Assassins (former partners). The Croatans, Drake and a 8.4 pt. lead eked put a “W” against the Assassins, Dalton, Kelce and Butker. The Assassins thanks to Kelce and Fuller had built up a pretty comfortable (25+) point lead as the 2 minute warning passed in the last game of the week. The Assassins were popping the corks on the champagne, when out of nowhere (shades of Webster Slaughter past), Drake ripped off a 69 yard TD run (when all he was trying to do was get another first down so they could kneel out the rest of the game. Almost surprised he did not pull a Westbrook and give himself up at the one-yard line. But the actual game (unlike the Assassins-Croatan contest), had long since been decided.
