Daniel “Bubba” Jones (5/23/63–12/9/20)

Week 14 finds the Commissioner’s office still in a funk. Yes, the Dream Team won (a bittersweet win) and the EAGLES upset the SAINTS. However, today we laid one of our founding members to rest. It was good to see a lot of you at the viewing. It was very sad to say goodbye to Danny “Bubba” Jones. As a tribute to him, his picture will occupy the helmet spot in these notes for the rest of the year. The high scorer will be reported in the Best & Worst of the week section.

The old web (http://swffl.50megs.com) has updated archives and historical records. I will also add some web-exclusive. Send any ideas to me and I will see what I can do.

Key Matchups to watch this Week

In a match between former partners, the defending champion Black Assassins will try to keep their repeat hopes alive by sweeping the Croatans. The Jelly Beans will try to keep their top spot by sweeping the Body Shop. The Black & Blue Attack will try to keep their championship hopes alive by avenging their early season loss to the Dream Team. The Good Fellas will try to keep their money hopes alive by avenging their early season loss to the Roxborough Wranglers. In a battle to escape the basement, the Money Takers will try to complete the season sweep of the Fightin’ Irish.

Spock was 3 of 5 last week making him 33 of 60 (55%) on the year. He retains top billing. Norm (my estimates) was 3 of 5 last week making him 29 of 60 (48%) on the year. His lines (my estimates) appear below:

 C -1 BA (261)     GF -8 RW (259)
BS -2 JB (266)     MT -2 FI (258)
DT -9 BB (275)

Three games were already decided on Sunday night. The other 2 were basically over as well.

The Jelly Beans carried a 88.6 point lead into Monday night against the Croatans and they still had Nick Chubb in their back pockets. The Beans were led by Hill, Chubb, Hilton, Robinson and the Cheetah as they swept the Croatans, won their 3rd in a row and applied a firmer grip on that top spot. The Croatans were led by Tannehill as they dropped their 5th in a row and very close to locking up the basement slot.

The defending champion Black Assassins and a 29.7 point lead held off the Body Shop and Andrews on Monday night. The Assassins kept pace with the Beans at the top and avoided the season sweep by the Shop largely due to the efforts of Wilson, Adams and Kelce. The Shop was led by Mahomes, Aiyuk and Brown in their 2nd loss in a row. There were some better options for the Shop on the bench, but their best core would have still fell short. The battle for that last spot is heating up.

The Roxborough Wranglers and a 90.1 point lead were way too much for the Black & Blue Attack and the RAVENS on Monday night (despite that game ending safety). The Wranglers have now won 5 in a row (hottest team in the league) and have gone from trying to escape the basement to right into the battle for that last money spot. They also notched their first helmet of the year and completed the season sweep of the Attack. All this goodness came from the efforts of Allen, Gisecki and a monster rushing attack by Henry, Montgomery and Taylor. The Attack was led by Herbert, Davis, Diggs and Hopkins in the loss. There was not nearly enough help on the bench for the Attack.

The Dream Team completed the season sweep of the Money Takers in one of the few times I can say I really regret winning. The Dream Team was led by Allen in this low scoring affair. The Takers failed to field a 20 point scorer and had precious little help on the bench. I was really hoping the Takers could carry one more “W” up into heaven with him.

The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Fightin’ Irish and Good Fellas. Yeah – I know there is no Monday niht madness here. However it was the closest game, involved one team getting ousted from a money spot and was fairly high scoring game (although not nearly as high scoring as the Wrangler-attack point-fest). The Irish were led by Rodgers as they avoided the season sweep by the Fellas and put some more space between them and the basement. The Fellas were led by Sanders and Ridley in the loss that dropped them out of the money. A Mayfield start would have kept the Fellas in that last money spot.
