![]() Well another year has come to an end. Congratulations to the Young Gunz on their 3rd SWFFL Championship. It certainly was a competitive year, with the last Money spot being decided by a razor thin 15.2 point margin. As the Shop pointed out on the bulletin board, the defending champion Jelly Beans had the worst luck this year. I almost forgot about the Wentz kneel down game, ok it still pales compared to the scoring change heard round the league (Black & Blue Attack), but it was pretty close and in the end caused the Beans to finish out of the money instead of 2nd place. The Dream Team wound up with a respectable 6-11 which is pretty amazing given that we were 0-8 at one point. We broke last year's transaction record, which I though would stand for a long time. The old website (http://swffl.50megs.com) has updated archives and historical records. I will also add some web-exclusive. Send any ideas to me and I will see what I can do. I added the "CBS Guru" draft analysis to my analysis, and will compare both to the results at the end of the year. OK, this is the part where I look back at the draft analysis I do at the beginning of most years. This year it picked 3 of the 4 Money teams making 44 of 88 overall. 50% - same as a coin toss. As an alternatively, the CBS Guru selected 0 of the 4 Money teams, which makes them 3 of 8 (37.5%) in the last 2 years. I still think the Guru's system is better than mine, which is probable since CBS uses projections instead of just the previous year's numbers, like I do. Norm (my estimates) was 3 of 5 making him 38 of 75 (51%) on the year and he wins the annual competition. Spock was 2 of 5 making him 36 of 75 (48%) on the year. I actually did not get many picks from Norm this year, my fault. Maybe we will do better next year. Since we have some extra room in the last week, I will be doling out my season-ending awards for the year. The 2016 Fantasy MVP award goes to David Johnson (who gets the edge over Aaron Rodgers - because his SWFFL team won the crown). The PACKERS and FALCONS share the 2016 Fantasy NFL Team of the Year award by grabbing a top 4 spot in 2 of the position rankings (and finishing 1-2 in QB spot). Oddly, there were real no surprises this year. The top 4 at the skill positions contained any really surprises and those that were not in top 4 (but were expected) were not there mainly due to missed games (injury/suspension/etc.) I have to give DeMarco Murray the 2016 Comeback Player of the Year (but we sort of expected him to better free of Chip Kelly). There were many candidates for 2016 Bust of the Year (incl. injuries like Peterson, Gronkowski and to some degree Julio), but I think Todd Gurley earned the title (16th best RB who was drafted 3rd overall). The 2016 Worst Fantasy NFL Team goes to the RAMS, last in the NFL at scoring. The Body Shop avenged their early season loss to the Good Fellas and locked up second place. I know we all say Championship or bust, but I'll take second over 5th any day. The Shop was led by Stafford and the CARDINALS as they head off to their much smaller parade. The Fellas failed to field a 20 point scorer and in fact had to make a couple of moves just to field a team at all, as injuries and week 17 BYEs decimated their team. |
The Jelly Beans completed the season sweep of the Black & Blue Attack. Going in, a "W" looked like that would be enough hold on to a Money Spot but he Wranglers had other plans. The Beans were led by Luck, Julio and Ertz in the win. Their best lineup would have kept them in the Money. The Attack failed to field a 20 point scorer in the loss that cost them 2nd place. The Dream Team avenged their early season loss to the Fightin' Irish and final climbed out of the basement. The Dream Team was led by Rodgers in the win. The Irish was led by Adams, Landry and Benjamin in the loss. A Brady start would have the Dream Team in the basement. The Bishops of Battle completed the season sweep of the Champion Young Gunz. The bishops were led by Brees, Powell, Williams and Tate in the "W". Unfortunately they finished on the wrong end of a 3-way tie for 4th place. The Gunz failed to field a 20 point sorcerer as they obviously were still hung over from their much larger parade. Their bench apparently was equally hungover. The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Roxborough Wranglers and the Money Takers. This game was chosen not so much because it was close (it was not), but the Wranglers had to win and overcome a large (>60 pt. deficit) to overtake the Jelly Beans and secure 4th place. They did that and in the process scored the precious week 17 helmet and their 4th win in a row. They had a lot of contributors in Week 17, including Ryan, Freeman, Ingram, Edelman and Thomas. The Takers were led by Rivers and Rudolph in their 6th loss in a row. This loss finally sent them to last place. Given the output by the Wranglers, the Takers whole roster would have come up short.
