![]() Well another season has come to an end. The Commissioner's office would like to congratulate the Black & Blue Attack on their 5th (record) SWFFL Championship. We also wish to congratulate all the other Money Teams. The championship was a lot less dramatic this year compared to last year. Although we do not have anything as dramatic as the 0.2 point correction that rocked the SWFFL standings, we did have another record breaking scoring season by the Black & Blue Attack including the all-time high score for one game. On the other hand, we also had the team that gave up a record amount of points. That team would be the Dream Team, #2 in the CBS Power Rankings, #2 in scoring, but #5 in the standings that count. OK no more whining. At any rate, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The League Settle-Up Party is set for Sunday February 8th at 6:00 at Maggie ONeil's. I hope to see everyone there. Don't forget to keep an eye on the old web site (http://swffl.50megs.com). It has updated archives and historical records. I will also add some web-exclusive materials there, like the complete 2014 Draft analysis, as I develop them. Anybody with ideas, send them to me and I will see what I can do. OK, this is the part where I look back at the draft analysis I do at the beginning of most years. This year it picked 2 of the 4 Money teams making 40 of 80 overall. Still at 50%, but unless someone has a better idea, I'll probably continue the same old analysis. At least it predicted a Money finish for the eventual Champ and also picked second highest scoring team (which did not make the money). Spock was 4 of 5 making him 48 of 75 (64%) on the year and he wins the annual competition. Norm was 5 of 5 making him 38 of 75 (51%) on the year. I actually did not get many picks form Norm this year -- my fault. Maybe we will do a little better next year. Since we have some extra room in the last week, I will be doling out my season-ending awards for the year. The 2014 Fantasy MVP award goes to Peyton Manning (OK he did not have the season he had last year, but trading him actually made 2 teams Money Teams). The STEELERS are the 2014 Fantasy NFL Team of the Year award by grabbing a top 4 spot in 3 of the position rankings including two first place finishes. The 2014 Surprise of the Year is Odell Beckham who wound up as a top 5 WR despite missing the first 5 games. He had the weekly MVP for weeks 15-17 and beat out a lot of other great rookie WRs including Evans, Watkins, Benjamin and Matthews. I have to give Antonio Gates the 2014 Comeback Player of the Year mainly because he discovered the fountain of youth. There were many candidates for 2013 Bust of the Year (incl. suspensions like AP and injuries like Megatron), but I think LeSean McCoy earned the title. The number 1 pick should at least finish up in the top 10 at the position. The 2013 Worst Fantasy NFL Team goes to the RAIDERS and JAGUAR. They were the worst in the league at scoring and gaining yards. |
In a battle for 3rd place, the Money Takers completed the season sweep of the Good Fellas. The Takers were led by weekly MVP Beckham (3rd week in a row) and Bryant. The Fellas settling for 4th place were led by Sanchez. A Matthews or Floyd start would have been worth some serious cash. The Dream Team swept the Jelly Beans and snapped the 4 game losing streak that ruined their season. The Dream Team was led by Stafford and Boldin. The Beans were led by D-Jax in the loss. In a game that mattered little, the Fightin' Irish completed the season sweep of the Bishops of Battle. The Irish were led by Dre' Johnson (where was he all year?). Only Rodgers led managed to surpass the 20 point mark and I believe this may have been the only starting lineup of the year with 2 zeros. In the closest game of the week, the Body Shop avenged their early season loss to the Roxborough Wranglers. The Shop was led by Cobb as they wrapped up 2nd place and spent the rest of the afternoon wondering who picked the Young Gunz lineup. The PANTHERS were the only 20 point scorer for the Wranglers. A Randle start would have had the Shop in 3rd place and glad that someone had to loose between the Good Fellas and the Money Takers. The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Black & Blue Attack and the Young Gunz. The Attack was led by Manning, Anderson, Brown and Fleener as they wrapped up a record breaking season. The Gunz had the second highest total for Week 17 (still which we had a prize for that) as they were led by Big Ben and Kelce. A Miller and Decker start would have given the Gunz the Week 17 helmet and interestingly proved Brett's mid-season prediction wrong. CHATTERBOX:(Get Quotes in by Monday Night)
