![]() Week 7 finds two distinct groupings in the standings forming. The Elite are sitting at 5-2 and the Basement bunch is at 2-5. There are also 2 teams in between, but it is clear that those 2-5 teams are in must-win situations. There are still BYES, so check the schedule before calling/mailing in your line-up. If you would still like the Notes mailed to you let me know and I will start mailing them out to you. It is cheaper and also much quicker to go electronic. The league's url is http://swffl.50megs.com . Key Matchups to watch this Week The Black Revenge and Body Shop in a match-up between one of those 5-2 Elite Teams and one of those 2-5 basement bunch. The Shop is making places for a Championship run. We here the Assassins are making golf plans. The Dream Team faces the Quiet Storm (as a 2-5 vs. 5-2 game). The Storm, despite their record is coming off a loss. The Dream Team is shooting for the Points Against record. The Good Fellas take on the Black & Blue in a battle which the winner is in the Elite and the loser may be out. The Attack took care of Dad and now he is going after the sons. The Fellas have cleared 70 points in 3 of the last 4 games. The Sharks and Jelly Beans face off in the semi-annual Cedar Lane Bowl. The stakes are high in this rendition because the loser may be out of it. The M. Takers hope to hang on to their Elite spot against the Bull Dogs. The Takers Purple Double Bubble is racking up the points. The Bull Dogs are certainly not happy (see quote). Spock was 3/5 making him 14/30 (47%) on the season. He regains top billing. Norm (actually my guesstimates) was 1/5 this week making him 13/30 (43%) on the season. His lines are below: BR -3 BS (94) JB -1 S (90)DT -2 QS(104) BD -2 MT (93) GF -4 BB (96) Two games were officially over on Sunday. The others were all pretty much over. The M. Takers bounced back on the 'W' train with a win over the Quiet Storm. The VIKINGS led the Takers; in fact on Sunday the only Takers to score were VIKINGS. With my record, I am in no position to second-guess anyone. I can say that there were an awful lot of points on the Storm bench. In a curious coincidence, the Storms 38 points matched their Coaching efficiency. It is never good when your best possible lineup is almost 100 and your actual lineup is less than 40. |
The Body Shop and a 30 point lead were too much for the Bull Dogs, Garner and the CHIEFS. The Shop had go deep into the bench as they lost their Colt double-bubble and Hines Ward. Quicy Carter came up huge and Hambrick even tossed in a TD. The Bull Dogs hit the waiver wire with Carr over starting Ramsey. Turns out they would have been better standing pat. Other than that there were an awful lot of zeros on that roster listing. The Black & Blue and a 29 point lead were too much for the Dream Team, Holmes and Morton. Bulger and the TITANS led the Black & Blue. It is becoming more and more obvious that there was a reason why Bledsoe was available so late in the draft. Akers was a great kicker because the EAGLEs used to drive the ball and quite often would have to settle for 3, that does not seem to be the case in 2003. The Good Fellas knocked off the Jelly Beans. The Fellas Packer "modified" Double-Bubble is doing almost as well as the other "big" double bubbles (and it was cheaper), although this week there was nary a zero in their starting lineup. The Beans got nice games out of Holt and Alexander, but the QB position still seems to be a problem. The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Sharks and the Black Revenge. The Sharks and Revenge lit up the scoreboard like a pinball machine. The Sharks carried a 2 point lead into Monday and still had Gannon and Gonzales left. Henry, Owens and Steve Smith each put up 21 points on the board. The Revenge had the misfortune of playing one of the few teams that would have beaten this week. The Revenge also had a truck load of bench points. Perhaps the only thing worse than playing the helmet team, is having more than enough points on the bench too get the helmet yourselves.
