SPOCK'S LOCKS FORMAT - Favorite w/Spread on top - Underdog w/Under-Over in parenthesis

Week 5 finds those Double-Bubble teams still in the Elite. We all sort of snickered at the plans hatched by the Teams with the 9th and 10th picks. But who is laughing now. There are still BYES, so check the schedule before calling/mailing in your line-up.

If you would still like the Notes mailed to you let me know and I will start mailing them out to you. It is cheaper and also much quicker to go electronic. The league's url is http://swffl.50megs.com .

Key Matchups to watch this Week

The Black Revenge and Good Fellas match up of a couple of teams just a step away from the Elite. The winner may jump up in the Elite, the loser may find themselves close to the cellar. The game between the Jelly Beans and the Bull Dogs is exactly the same. Winner has a shot at a Elite Spot, the loser is close to the cellar. The Body Shop and Quiet Storm match face each other in a battle between Elite Teams and the winners of 2 out of the first 5 helmets. The Dream Team and Sharks meet in a contest between teams with 2 wins between them. The loser goes to 1-5 and may just start dreaming about next year's draft. The M. Takers and Black & Blue Attack meet in a contest between former partners and teams very much in the thick of the championship run. The Attack has had the most success recently. The Takers lose their Double-Bubble attack.

Spock was 2/5 this week making him 9/20 (45%) on the season. His retains top billing. Norm was 2/5 making him 7/20 (35%) on the season. His lines are below:

GF -3 BR (91)     DT -8  S(100)
JB -4 BD (90)     BB -1 MT (94)
QS -1 BS (99)

One game was officially over on Sunday. Three others were pretty much over and the last one was still up in the air.

The Jelly Beans finally got some points out of Donovan in their win over the Black Revenge. Shaun Alexander led the Beans in the victory. The Revenge's punch-less attack featured a 0 from Maddox and truckload of bench points. The Beans snapped a 3 game losing streak with the 'W'.

The Good Fellas and a 51 point lead were too much for the Bull Dogs and Pittman. The Fellas put up 80+ points last week and lost. This week, their 80+ points were enough to win as they beat a former partner in the Bull Dogs. The Fellas were led by a ground attack that churned out 45 points. The Bull Dogs also left a lot of points on the bench, but even their best lineup would have fallen well short. We had our first Boston sighting (in a Chargers uniform). Maybe making team meetings and such has some value.

The Quiet Storm, Vanderjagt and a 14 point lead were too much for the Sharks and Gramatica to overcome on Monday night in a game that had 0 QB points. The Storm's two back attack put up 40 points and made up for their non-existent air attack. The Sharks could have used that monster game by Hall on the bench. Can anybody tell me what happened to Gannon?

The M. Takers Double-Bubble struck again and the Takers defeated the Dream Team by a ton. Moss and Frerotte were joined by double-digit performances by Price and Janikowski. The Takers are still in search of their first running back points, but their 4-1 record is proof that maybe you do not need a running game. The Dream Team has now lost 3 in a row and their QB has been rather inconsistent and Priest's 0 just nailed the coffin shut.

The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Black & Blue and the Body Shop. The game was tight going into Monday night and featured two Elite Teams, all the ingredients of a "GOW". The Black & Blue's 11 point lead was not enough to hold off the Shop's Colts Double-Bubble. The Colts Double-Bubble (even against the tough Tampa defense) easily overcame the deficit. The Shop was led by a big game out of Mare. On a side note, because of a typo in his name, McNair's points were not being loaded correctly. I have fixed the box scores from previous weeks. It has not really mattered because the NFL MVP front-runner has not been able to find his way off the Black & Blue Bench. I would apologize for having McNair's stats wrong, but I doubt very seriously that the stats I post, have any influence on the Black & Blue strategy. The Black & Blue's formidable running game came up as little short this week.
