![]() Week 7 finds some of the have nots making a move. All but 2 teams are within a game of the Elite Line and 2 games out of second. It was looking a lot gloomier for the have-nots a couple of weeks ago. There are some teams off this week, so make sure you check. If you can live with the web version or if you want to try and receive these notes by e-mail, let me know. It is cheaper and also much quicker. The league's url is http://swffl.50megs.com . Key Matchups to watch this Week The hard-luck Jelly Beans take on the Sharks this week in the "Cedar Lane" bowl. The Beans are up there in points scored but can't see to stop the opponent. The Sharks don't have much of a sweet tooth, but they intend to make an exception for the Faulk-less Beans. The Black & Blue Attack and Body Shop square off in a battle of Elite Teams. The Shop went 5-0 and forgot how to win. The Attack had a hiccup out of the gate, but have won 6 in a row. The Black Revenge tries to hold on to that last Elite spot against the Dream Team, one of the 4 teams trying to steal that spot. These teams have won the last 3 championships and at the midpoint they are trying to stay or get in the Elite. The M. Takers take on the Bull Dogs in a contest between 3-4 teams. The Takers hope to put together a winning streak. The Dogs hope to kill a losing streak on a week where they get hit hard by the BYE. The Quiet Storm and Good Fellas tee it up in week 8. The Storm is in the thick of "Championship" battle. The Fellas have been hit hard by overloading on the RAMS and this week they don't have any of those RAMS. Norm was 3/5 this week, making him 11/30(37%) on the season. He retains top billing. Spock was 2/5 on the week, making him 20/30 (67%) on the season. His locks appear below: S -7 JB(103) MT -5 BD (93)BB -10 BS(122) QS -20 GF (96) BR&nsbp; -1 DT (97) There were 2 games that were technically over by Sunday. One game was all but over. Two others were only marginally up in the air. The Black & Blue Attack won the first semi-annual "Black Bowl" against the Black Revenge. The Attack still had Pollard and Peterson in reserve, but wrapped up the "W" on Sunday. Gannon and Tomlinson who both topped the 20-point mark led the Attack. Brooks led the Revenge in a losing effort. Both teams had pretty good RB performances on the bench (Hearst and Stewart). This was a contest between 2 Elite teams and they both topped the 50-point mark. |
The Quiet Storm handed the Body Shop their 2nd loss of the year and they are now tied for second. Griese and "first-half-MVP" Holmes led the Storm to victory. The Shop went up early on a 24-point double-bubble and it was looking like the Shop would be right back on the W. The Storm chipped away and finally went ahead with huge 48 points out of the KC-Denver game. Another contest between Elite Teams and they both went over the 60-point mark. Do you sense a trend here. The Jelly Beans put a big time whooping on the Bull Dogs. James could not overcome a 64-point lead on Monday night. Faulk had the kind of game that led to him being picked first overall. The problem is he has not had enough of those games in the first half. The Beans also solved their "Helmet" problem; the solution is to win the "Helmet" yourself. The Dogs only got points out of Hollis and Booker on Sunday. The Sharks, Harrison, Vanderjagt and an 8-point lead were too much for the Good Fellas and the STEELERS ST to overcome. Joe Horn led the Sharks. The Goodfellas lost their 6th of the year. Instead of shying away from the RAMS, the Fellas went out and added another. One wonders if the youngsters ever heard the old yarn about "all your eggs in one basket". The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Dream Team and the M. Takers. This contest between "Football Central" occupants was more a battle of who wanted to lose more as neither team did much on Sunday. The Dream Team, Manning and an 11- point lead held off the Takers and Bettis on Monday night, although it did get interesting. The Takers only got points out of Bettis, Elam and Owens. The Dream Team only got points out of Manning, Wilkins and the BUCCANEERS (a shrewd pickup, if I do say so myself). The QB vs. RB on Monday night sealed the fate of the game. Both teams are 3-4 and still very much in the running for a Elite spot. CHATTERBOX:(Get Quotes in by Monday Night)
