NORM'S LINES - Favorite w/Spread on top - Underdog w/Under-Over in parenthesis

Well here we go again. Our 14th season is under way. I hope everyone enjoyed the draft. I'd like to thank Ron for hosting the draft once again. One thing did come up this week, someone tried to call a transaction in to me on Sunday night. We really do need all transactions to be called into one place (Norm), then there is never a question of who got what free agent first. I will take transactions with lineups, but after that you must call Norm to pickup a player. I failed to get a list of people who want Notes mailed to them. I will mail this to everyone who received it last year. If you can live with the web version or if you want to try and receive these notes by e-mail, let me know. It is cheaper and also much quicker. The league's url is http://swffl.50megs.com .

Key Matchups to watch this Week

The Body Shop and Jelly Beans square off in hopes of continuing their winning ways. The winner will be 2-0 and looking good. The Black Revenge and Good Fellas will meet in search of their first 'W'. A win here and everything is OK, a loss and the 0-2 hole is a cause for concern. The Dream Team and Black & Blue (winners of 4 of the last 5 championships combined) find themselves both trying to avoid that same 0-2 hole and will both be in search of their first "W" as well. The M. Takers will take on the Sharks. The Takers started look to continue their winning ways. The Sharks just hope to not run into a 'helmet' team for the second week in a row. In another battle of the undefeated the Quiet Storm or 'Boyz from the Wood' will try to rack up their 2nd helmet of the young season against the Bull Dogs, who are looking for an easier 'W' this week.

Norm will begin the defense of the Oddsmakers this week, as defending champ he gets top billing and his lines appear above. Spock's Locks for Week 2 are:

JB -2 BS(114)     MT -27  S (89)
BR -2 GF (94)     QS -15 BD (115)
DT -1 BB (85)

I did that analysis based on last year's points, lat year it picked 3 of 4 Elite teams. In the prior 8 years it picked 18 out of the 32 Elite Teams. As always, this analysis is based on last year's performance in points per game. If you are depending on a rookie or a comeback player then ignore these results. If you aren't necessarily relying on either of these type players and you're on the bottom of the list, you might want to consider hitting the transaction wire hard. See the web site for details on what players made up your 2001 Best Lineup.

There were 2 games that were technically over by Sunday night. One game was more or less over. Two games were still in doubt.

The Body Shop makes a triumphant return after a long retirement by notching their first 'W' in over a decade against the Black Revenge. The Body Shop had a balanced scoring attack, with all but their ST scoring and no player over 20. That last minute BILL double-bubble TD, proved to be the game-winner. The Revenge were led by Brooks in a losing effort.

The Quiet Storm left the mountains and headed to the ocean and put a death grip on the Sharks. The Storm took the first helmet. Maybe 'Phone Drafts' have an advantage. The Storm was led by an MVP performance by Holmes. The Sharks new it would be bad when Garcia only managed 6 on Thursday.

The Jelly Beans and a 28 point lead were too much for the Good Fellas, Vinatieri and the STEELERS on Monday night. The Beans were led by McNabb and Boston. The Fellas suffered from the RAM brown-out in Denver. Can't remember the last time Warner threw no TDs.

The M. Takers, Bettis, A. Smith and a 4 pt. lead were too much for the Black & Blue Attack and Peterson. The Takers were led by Culpepper and Elam. The Attack was hindered by no production from any of their WR's. They are said to be proposing a 4 RB, 1 WR set to address this problem. I do not think this will be successful.

The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Dream Team and the Bull Dogs. The Bull Dogs and 1 pt. lead were too much for the Dream Team and the PATRIOTS on Monday night. Both teams suffered from a large amount of bench points. The Dogs got great performances out of Booker and Williams. Upon further review, the Bull Dogs win.

CHATTERBOX:(Get Quotes in by Monday Night)
Dream Team (Norm): "We were robbed. For the record, I think reviews should be banned from the game. Let the referees call the game."
Bull Dogs (John T.): "It is a beautiful thing to start off the season with a victory. But is even better when it is against the Dream Team. Thank you Monday Night Madness."
