Week 5 finds only one undefeated team and only 1 winless team left. A few league housekeeping issues: Let me know if you have a problem with our week numbering system being out of synch with the NFL. Also I believe I have a typo in the rules about the number of team needed to ratify a trade it says 6 of 8 teams not involved. I believe it should be 5 of 8. I may just make this change as 5 has been the number I've been using for years. Also as you all know by now. We had a trade vetoed this week. By rule, the trade vote existed to prevent collusion - not an inequitable trade. By practice I believe most owners have been voting on whether a trade is equitable. One could argue that since we do not know what goes on between owners that equitable trades are the only way to ensure that there is not collusion. At any rate I think we do have to address the issue in some way, hopefully before the net trade proposal happens. Since we've had our one trade for this year maybe we are safe shelving it to the off-season, but I'd rather take care of it before then, just in case this year is weird and we have more than one trade.

In case you lost it, the league's url is http://swffl.50megs.com, drop by, take a look at the archive. These notes are also available via e-mail if you have an e-mail account. The E-Mail notes get out sooner, get delivered faster and you avoid the dreaded stamp fee.

Key Match-Ups to Watch this Week.
The M. Takers take on the Black & Blue in a contest between former partners. Interestingly, if the Takers win, they could knock the Black & Blue out of the elite and take over their spot after an 0-2 start. The Good Fellas and Quiet Storm will try to get back on the winning track after losses this week. The Fellas get hit with a big bye, and the Storm is coming off a season low in scoring. The Jelly Beans and Sharks come together in the battle of "Cedar Lane". Both teams are on losing streaks that need to be corrected lest they find themselves too far away from the elusive elite line. The Black Revenge will take on the Hammer Heads this week. The Revenge needs to keep winning to keep their re-peat Championship hopes alive. The Heads need the win to stay within sniffing distance of the Elite line. The Dream Team will try to keep themselves in the penthouse and put the Bulldogs back in the cellar. I expect the level of banter will be turned up a notch at "Maggie's".

Norm was 3/5 this week making him 5/10 (50%) on the season and he gains top billing. Spock was 2/5 this week making him 5/10 (50%) on the year and his locks appear below:

MT  -4 BB(108)    BR -24 HH (90)
GF -12 QS (88)    DT -21 BD(111)
JB  -2  S (84)

There were 4 games that were technically over by Sunday night. The other was still in doubt.

The M. Takers soundly defeated the Quiet Storm even without Faulk on Monday. The Takers are now at .500 after starting out 0-2 and are on the doorstep to the Elite. The Storm has been winning with defense this year, but the problem with that is that you can't come from behind when you need to, because your offense is used to grinding out the clock, not lighting up the scoreboard.

The Black & Blue Attack pulled out the victory against the Bull Dogs on Sunday night with a big game out of Terell Owens. Of course Owens wouldn't have had a chance if not for a questionable 20 pt. TD by Mike Anderson. Miller, A-Train, Robinson. So did the Bears and Vikings switch teams and not tell anyone.

The Black Revenge dispatched the Jelly Beans even with out the Monday night gravy from Holt and Stewart. The Revenge was led by Shaun Alexander (Ricky who?) and Bill Schroeder who is not so quietly taking over the number one spot in the Green bay offense. The Beans finally got some points out of Moss, but at 1-3 they need more (a lot more) from their number one pick.

The Dream Team defeated the Sharks with Warner and Hakim waiting in the wings on Monday. The Dream Team has been getting superb production out of their top 4 picks. The Sharks have been hit with a Taylor injury (no shock there) and Davis is on a really bad team (of course that was true last year too, and Davis still put up numbers). As important as those middle rounds are, you are done if you get busts in the early rounds.

The "Game of the Week" honors go to the contest between the Bull Dogs and Hammer Heads. It was hard to give "GOW" to a game between winless teams, but this one did have Monday Night madness and that overrode the record issue. The Hammer Heads and a 6 pt. lead were not enough to hold off the Bull Dogs, Bruce and the RAMS, as the RAMS ended the suspense in the first half. The Heads got decent performances out of Culpepper and Hollis, but they need production from other positions. Marty Booker - what else can I say.

"No trade. No big deal. P.S. Stay tuned for the Greatest show on Earth every weekend."
