![]() Well another season has come to an end. Congratulations, Bulldogs, Mac Attack and Quiet Storm on your fine years. In 1999, 1st round choices dropped like flies (and many of those that did not find the IR, found the Bust category) and only 1 team from the Conference Championships last year even made the playoffs. I guess it is appropriate that the lowest scoring team in the League went into Monday night looking like a lock to win the Title. I hope everyone enjoyed it, even if it did not go well for your team. I will forgo my standard plea for someone to take over the league, as it seems to have worked so well for the last several years. One request for next year, despite - my partner's imminent protests, I would like to move to a more electronic form of Notes delivery. I do not care whether it is e-mail or the web site. It is a pain making up 3 (printed notes, web version that looks like printed notes-difficult to read and the Web-friendly version of the Notes) different versions of the Notes (a lot of copy & paste). I won't miss the envelope stuffing and copier either. See you at the Party!! In other league news, I have a bunch of ideas to work on the off-season, when I have a bit more time. I hope everybody had a safe and happy New Year. Point your favorite browser to www.50megs.com/users2/ksmalley Norm was 5-5 this week and finished up the season 40-75 (53%). Spock was 2-5 this week making him 45-75 (60%) on the season. Spock won the season battle also. Three games were final after Sunday. In one game, the winning team was the only team with Monday players. In the final game, the losing team did not have much of a chance going into Monday, but any chance is better than no chance (plus that game would decide the Championship). This final game was obvious choice for "Game of the Week", even before the game started. By the end if the 1st quarter it wasn't even a question. The M. Takers and Jelly Beans squared off in a game for Pride. The Beans scored early and often and notched the season sweep of the Takers. Brad Johnson's early exit cost them a shot at the Week 17 consolation prize. The Takers were reserving tee-times instead of scoring fantasy points. The Beans were led by Tory Holt. The Beans were the only team that scored over 800 pts. and did not make the Elite. The M. Takers were led by Jeff George and Al DelGreco. The Takers actually played the right PK this week and still lost. In fact, they broke triple digits in PK scoring. The Takers held off the contenders for the ST consolation prize, and can at least walk away from the season with that. The Beans spoiled the "at least I finished over .500" consolation too. The Black Revenge defeated the Black & Blue Attack and completed a sweep against the defending Champs. The Revenge finally played a team that did not score 60+ points, in fact the Black & Blue wound up with the low score of the week. The Revenge also fell short of giving up 1000 pts. on the year. Guess the Defense was embarrassed and did not want to cross that milestone. Marino taking the 2nd half off didn't hurt either. The Revenge was led by the TITANS of all things. See, I told you the Revenge defense came to play. Maybe the Assassins had a conference with the Bull Dogs Defensive |
Coordinator. The Black and Blue paralleled the Broncos of 99 fairly closely. Both 2-time defending Champs had disappointing seasons to say the least, in their efforts at 3-peating. The Sharks avenged their earlier loss to the Quiet Storm. The Sharks were led by Favre and Walls who were shooting it out against each other (even though they were playing in different cities). If nothing else, watching the Packers and Panthers exchange cross-country blows was exciting. Too bad the "dreaded" Cowboys made it all for naught. It was a fantasy football dream seeing QB's with a 30 something lead running a 2 minute offense and throwing bombs. Warner's early exit hurt the Storm's cause. The Hammer Heads ended the Mac Attack Title hopes as Steve Beuerlein tried to score 100 pts. on his own. He came up short and Jeffers cut down some of the Beuerlein affect. The Heads did capture the "Golden" helmet. The Mac Attack got little help out of their QB position, something you just can't have when going for a title. The Monday night outcome would have given the Mac Attack their first title if they won this week. The "Game of the Week" goes to the contest between the Dream team and Bull Dogs. The Bull Dogs held a 9 pt. lead against the Dream Team and Tim Dwight. Yes, you may have never heard of him before Monday night. But if you watched Monday night there was no doubt that you knew who he was afterwards. The crafty FA acquisition more than made up for the Dream Team coaching errors in starting Bruce (did he ever see the turf) and George (1 quarter and done). The Bull Dogs were led to their lead by Aikman. In fact, on the 3 teams with title aspirations, Aikman was the only QB to put up any points. The Dream Team was led by Dorsey Levens in the Green Bay-Carolina virtual shootout and Tim Dwight (wasn't he that fast white guy that scored on a kickoff return in last year's Super Bowl). Dwight stole the youngster's title. They had already made parade plans. Oh well, I guess Norm can use them. Dwight also saved the league from the "Black Eye" of having the lowest scoring team in the league win the Title. The Dream Team needed a career game out of relative unknown to lock up the Title that looked secure about 6 weeks ago. The Dream Team then proceeded to drop 4 out of 5, but they came through in the end. Congratulations Norm, and congratulations on a nice season from the other Staley's. Some rookie mistakes didn't help, the missed lineup calls and the starting of Hicks when starters out because nothing was available. When you are playing for a title, you pick up someone (like Dwight) who at least will see the field. That is how you play this game that we play. CHATTERBOX:(Get Quotes in by Monday Night)
