![]() Week 15 brought us something that I though I would never ever see, the lowest scoring team in the league now sits alone at the top of the standings. This, the topsy-turvy NFL season, Y2K, the approaching Millenium: Maybe there is something to all the "End of the World Stuff". This is the spot where I usually tell you who is off and who has early games. Last week I typed in one team's name wrong. Because I was pretty sure my opponent would play a person on that team and I have already faced thinly-veiled accusations of cheating this year, I felt compelled to inform my opponent of the mistake. To avoid even the appearance of impropriety on the part of the Commissioner's office, I "fell on my sword" so to speak and called my opponent to inform him that there was a mistake in the Notes. If I had not called, my opponent would have been left without a quarterback. Would my opponent have called in their starting QB on Saturday if there were no mistake? They have confirmed they would have. Would I have snared a "W" (no matter how hollow) this week had I not called? Probably not. At any rate I did call, my team did loose and my chances of winning the Championship have become somewhat depressed. Because my mistake caused my opponent to almost make a mistake in their lineup call in, and who knows how many others were affected similarly, I will no longer provide this information in the Notes. I will still have Game Previews on the web site, but I will put a clear disclaimer about the accuracy of the information provided. I make mistakes, and I do not want my mistakes to cause anyone else problems in their lineup decision making process. I will try to ensure that the information provided is correct. Because of the nature of the Web, I will fix mistakes as they are discovered. I will also throw a comment in the Chatterbox pointing out any mistakes I have corrected. I will never again call a team and basically tell them they are about to miss out on starting their only viable QB, especially not my opponent. Twice in the same year I've had to waste space with this stuff. I am really starting to worry about this "Millenium" stuff. In other league news, I really haven't done much with the web site, except keep it updated. Point your favorite browser to http://www.50megs.com/users2/ksmalley. Getting your notes by E-Mail is cheaper and quicker. Ask those that do get them. Finally, there are games on Friday and Saturday this week. If possible I would like all starters for either game in by the start of the game on Friday. Also, call your lineups into my house on Sunday as I will not be venturing over to Football Central this week. Key Match-Ups to Watch this Week. This week we repeat the schedule for week 7. The Dream Team will try to repeat their earlier performance against the M. Takers and set up a Week 17 "Super Bowl" game with the Bull Dogs. The Takers need to win and some help to stay alive. The Jelly Beans and Black Assassins square off in the battle of the "eliminated". The Sharks and Hammer Heads face off in what is all but an elimination game. Whoever loses will be eliminated in practicality if not in reality. The Bull Dogs can wrap up the title with a win against the Quiet Storm and a loss by the Dream Team. The Storm can virtually wrap up the last Elite spot with a win, because of their high point total. The "red hot" Black & Blue Attack will take on the Mac Attack in the 2nd annual "Attack" bowl. The Black & Blue need a win ad help to jump back into the Elite. The Mac Attack must win to avoid elimination from the Title race, their point total practically guarantees them an Elite spot. |
Spock was 4-5 this week making him 40-65 (62%) on the season and he retains top billing. Spock only needs 3 wins out of 10 games to win the season battle. Norm was 1-5 this week making him 32-65 (49%) on the season and his lines appear below. Norm's recent poor record seems to coincide with Dream Team's poor luck: DT -3 QS (90) QS -3 BD (91) No games were final after Sunday. In two games, the winning team had a huge lead and the losing team had a little chance on Monday. In the final 3 games, the losing teams had reasonable chances going on Monday. The Mac Attack "virtually" locked up an Elite spot against the Jelly Beans with their 4th helmet of the year (2nd in 3 weeks). The Jelly Beans and the PACKERS could not overcome a 60 pt. lead against the Mac Attack and Scroeder. The Attack has a serious shot at 1000 pts. but a loss or a Bull Dog or Dream Team win will knock them out of the Title contention. The Hammer Heads completed the season sweep against the Dream Team on the strength of an MVP performance by Beuerlein. The Heads are still alive, barely. The Dream Team fell out of 1st place for the first time since week 3. They still control their destiny to the Title. The M. Takers, George, Smith and Reed were unable to overcome a 22 pt. lead to the Quiet Storm and Moss. The Storm won their 1st game in 5 as an Elite Team. The Takers need to win out and help. The Bull Dogs finished their climb up the standings with a win against the Black Revenge as Bradord failed to give the Revenge the "W". The Bull Dogs won despite failing to call in normal starters Muhammed and Bettis. I don't know, if I am in the heat of the battle for a Title, I don't think I would make a mistake like that, but "Kids will be Kids". The "Game of the Week" goes to the contest between the Sharks and Black & Blue Attack. The Attack carried a 1 pt. lead into Monday night against the Sharks and Favre. Amazingly, Favre failed to score any points and the Black & Blue Attack won their 4th in a row. They have made the long climb from last to the doorstop of the Elite. Unfortunately, they may have started their climb just a touch late. CHATTERBOX:(Get Quotes in by Monday Night)
